I am a teacher who has worked with SEND pupils, especially those with literacy problems. I have also taught English as a foreign language. For several years I worked with Easylearn publishers, developing resources for children struggling with English and Maths. I am one of the creators of the Froggy Match-it phonics app, which helps beginner readers to learn to read and spell effectively.

This book can be used for both spoken language and work on writing. The pictures appeal to a wide age range and contain lots of interesting detail to promote discussion and description. The wide variety of sequences ranges from fairy tales and fantasy stories to everyday events. The books also contain colour versions of the pictures which can be printed and used as cards or used on an interactive whiteboard for class/group discussions etc. Another book with different pictures but the same format, More Sequencing Pictures, is also available. First Stop covers the first, basic elements of punctuation: capital letters and full stops, uses of capitalisation and question marks. It is excellent for pupils with special needs. Vocabulary is limited and the motivating tasks can be completed independently. First Stop is suitable for a wide age range. It fits in well with the grammar and punctuation work for the English Programme of Study for KS1. Two other similar books are available: Stop it!, which covers more punctuation rules and is suitable for older pupils, and Stop it, Editor!, in which pupils edit texts and find mistakes.
